About Me

After earning his doctor of osteopathic medicine from Des Moines University, Dr. Peter Blendonohy completed a one-year rotating internship at the Chicago Osteopathic Medical Center. Dr. Peter Blendonohy then fulfilled a four-residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where he also completed a fellowship in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation. Dr. Blendonohy is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

Illinois’ chief state surgeon, Dr. Blendonohy holds the rank of colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard and previously served in Iraq three times and Afghanistan once. Other highlights of his military career include serving as a leader on a special mission to Ukraine, where his team gave a presentation to the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy on the medical evacuation of battlefield patients. He also presented on neurological rehabilitation at a military hospital in Lviv, Ukraine.

Apart from dispatching his professional obligations, Dr. Blendonohy enjoys domestic and international travel. An avid reader, he is particularly fond of reading history.
